Just Listen by Rick White, President 180BIZ
What I want to talk to you about is this is our faith edition. Please remember, I am not a preacher. I'm not ordained, although Sandy has tried to talk me into it. I don't even play a preacher on TV. This is just stuff that has touched me that I'd like to share with you and hopefully put a positive spin on everything we're going through right now. So, one of the things that I really love is this time of year it's Easter season.
The last thing that Jesus said on the cross was “It is finished.” He had completed the work, he had fulfilled the prophecies. Before Jesus you could not go directly to God. You had to have a priest in between you and God. You had to have an intermediary, someone that would intercede on your behalf. So, you never had a direct relationship with God. This is one of the most amazing things to me, and it brings a tear to my eye every time I think about it. When Jesus said, “It is finished,” the...
Easter by Rick White, President 180BIZ
For Christians, Today is probably the most important day in our calendar. I believe Christmas celebrates the promise. It celebrates the gift. But I think on Easter, we celebrate the promise, the hope, the belief that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and for all the time that throughout the year that we could have been suffering through this virus. I think it is so appropriate to have it on Easter week and here's why. Then you can draw so many similarities between what the disciples, what the apostles went through and what we're going through. In other words, the Jewish people thought the Messiah was coming to liberate them. The Messiah would bring them out of bondage from the Roman empire.
There was a lot of misunderstanding. So they kept thinking that Jesus was going to overthrow Caesar or at least get him out of Israel. And they were very confused. Now at Palm Sunday, last Sunday, when everybody was saying Hosanna, Hosanna,...
Palm Sunday by Rick White, President 180BIZ
Today is Palm Sunday and as a Christian, this is a very, very special day for us. This is where Jesus came into Jerusalem as a conqueror, as a King. This is when they were putting the palms and cloaks down in front of him. I think there's a lesson here. He realized what was going on. He knew what was going to happen. I saw the movie a while back with Mel Gibson called The Passion of Christ. That is a movie I watch every year right around this time of year.
Christ comes in as a conqueror, as a Victor into Jerusalem. They think he's going to be the next King. They see big things. They misunderstood the prophecies and thought that he was going to overthrow the Roman government. So how quickly did it turn?
I was driving by one of our churches yesterday. You know how they put the signs up? I love those signs. Some of them are so inventive. Anyway, I saw this sign and it said, “Jesus carried your cross.” And I started...
Faith and Decisions by Rick White, President 180BIZ
In this episode I’ll talk about our faith in different part of our lives, about being able to tap into something bigger and greater than we are. I am not the most religious man. Lord knows I've got a mouth sometimes. I am perfectly imperfect and at the same time I have such faith. I think that is what's helping me get through everything that I've been through in my life. It got me through two divorces and a bankruptcy. When I went through those divorces, I couldn't understand why I would ask God, “Why am I going through this?” Then fast forward 20 years and I'm helping other people stay married. I'm helping other people go through the pain of divorce. I'm helping other people find love. It’s all because I went through that pain.
I think what is really screwing with us right now is that we are all so self-reliant. We have been brought up or taught ourselves that our success is completely on...
What Does a Canoe Have to Do With It? By Rick White, President 180BIZ
I think we need a day where we can unplug, slow down and reflect. I think that there is a reason for Genesis and the whole seven days thing. I think it's important, to slow down and really refresh, recharge, unplug, and fill yourself back up.
I don't know if you know this about me. I've been very involved with the Boy Scouts my entire life. I've been an Assistant Scoutmaster for 12 years and a Cubmaster for five years. So, one of the things that I was thinking about is that typically we’re either walking or running through life. And if you think about it, there's only one part of you, one point of contact between you and the earth. Now we do that because we have this gift called gravity that helps us to keep our feet on the ground. Most of the time we're able to get through life with just one point of contact. Cause if you think about it, you're walking to open. Good morning. It's either...
