Don't Let Profit Be Merely An Accident

by Rick White, President 180BIZ                                                                  (Estimated Read Time 4 minutes)

In this episode, I’ll talk about accidents in your shop happening right now. Let’s talk about how your Net Profit is merely an accident. Look at your P&I.  You have Sales minus Cost equals Gross Profit.  Then subtract your Expenses which leaves you with your Net Profit.  My problem is that net profit is a leftover. It's a scrap. Whatever you get is merely by accident. I'm sick and tired of net profit being table scraps. I'm tired of hoping it’s a positive number. I’m tired of shop owners who are disappointed that they didn’t get what they wanted. That’s why I’m talking about Net Profit.

I don’t want NET PROFIT to be an accident anymore.

So, now let’s talk about your relationship with profit. It amazes me how many people, myself included, have a hard time working through net profit. Profit is a good thing, not a bad thing. I want to change how we view net profit or profit in general or cash, or making money.

I did a little bit of studying. Do you know what I found out? If you plant one tomato seed and you nurture it, you will get anywhere from 18 to 30 tomatoes. That’s out of that one little tomato seed that grows into one plant. Those tomatoes produce somewhere between 150 and 300 seeds each. Let’s think about that for a second. One little tomato seed generated anywhere from 2,700 to 9,000 seeds. So why am I talking about tomato seeds?

I’m talking about ABUNDANCE here.

Here’s another example. Look at an oak tree. Do you realize one acorn, one insignificant acorn creates an oak tree, and that oak tree throughout its lifetime, can produce over 10 Million acorns? What am I talking about? Abundance.

I want you to stop thinking about profit as something dirty. Think about it as abundance. You are doing something for someone, and that abundance is the byproduct. That's what profit is.

Profit is the applause that your clients give you for a job well done.

Let's just jump into the Bible for a minute. I made a list this morning of rich men in the Bible. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Job Boaz, David, Solomon, Matthew, and Joseph of Arimathea. These are all rich guys in the Bible. If you listen to the prodigal son or read the story of the prodigal son, the father is rich.

And Genesis chapter one, verse 28. It's called the first commandment. Be fruitful and multiply is what God said to Adam and his sons. Be fruitful and multiply. That doesn't just mean with kids.

The love of money is the root of all evil.

Here's another one, 1st Timothy says The love of money is the root of all evil. That is an incomplete verse. 1st Timothy, chapter 6 verse 10 states, “The love of money is the root of all evil.” It is when you make money by chasing it and striving for it, and you'll do almost anything for it, that’s when it’s a problem.

I want you to think this through a little bit. God wants us to be abundant. There's the law of abundance all around us. So the wind reaps the whirlwind. There's just so much in Bible. If this resonates with you, please share this. There are so many people in this world that are hung up on profit.

Zig Ziegler said, “I believe God made the diamonds his bunch, not Satan’s bunch."

believe abundance is a good thing. Money is a tool. That's all it is. Money creates a lifestyle for you. Money also allows you to make an impact and a difference in the world.

Do you know where your negative beliefs about money and profit comes from?  It comes from broken people. If you believe that the only people who are screwing other people can have a lot of money, that comes from other people’s lack.  When they couldn't figure out how to thrive and be abundant, they created excuses and blamed other people for it. You must let that go.

Profit is a tool.

Profit allows you to do things. Profit allows you to make a difference. Don't let the lack in other people's lives make your reality.

God bless. Stay safe, have fun, and go make some money.
