Successful Shop Owners Make 3 Daily Choices

This episode is about choices. John is here with me and he's questioning a lot of his choices today. You have a choice every single day. You actually have three choices every day.  Let me tell you what they are real quick. 

1. How will I show up today? You get to choose who you're going to be today. You have that choice and most people don't really make it consciously. Most people get up in the morning and let situations, circumstances, events, and other people dictate how they show up for the rest of the day. They're letting those things live in their head, rent-free. And it's the waste. 

2. What will I focus on? The next choice we have is that we get to choose what we focus on. Life is one big garden, and it only grows two plants. Those two plants are potential and problems. You have a choice. But guess what, most of us don't make that choice consciously. We allow situations, circumstances, events, and other people to once again dictate what we're staring at. Wherever focus goes, your feet follow. If you focus on problems, you get more problems.  If you start putting fires out in the shop, all of a sudden you recognize that you should have that little plastic fire hat you got when you were a kid.  You just run around the shop, all day long, putting all the fires out. 
   
   Whatever you focus on, you get more of it. I want you to think back to the very first day when you slid the key into the front door of your shop. You were staring at nothing but potential. And it might have been a little scary. But I get to choose what I focus on. I get to choose how I show up. You know, back then you saw nothing but potential. And now, you see all the problems. But here's the funny thing about that. That first day, you slid the key in, and all you saw was potential. The problems were always there. And now, when all you see are problems, the potential is there too. So what are you going after? What will you invite into your life? Will invite the problems or do you want to invite the potential? 

3. Will I create or will I react? Every day you get up, you get to choose whether you react, or you create. So many people get up reacting. You're never going to react your way to achieving your dreams. You're never going to react your way to the growth you want to see. You're never going to react your way to the relationship you want to have in your life. You're never going to react your way to creating the team and the environment that you want in your shop. It's not going to happen. Make a conscious choice in the morning, actually three. Number one. How do I want to show up today? Who am I going to help today? How can I be God's angel here today?
   
   Questions create focus. If you have a poor focus, it's because you're asking crappy questions, like what's going to go wrong today. If I ask that kind of question, I’ll get the answer, and guess what it does. It makes me feel like crap. But what if I asked, how can I take advantage of the opportunities that are there? How can I see more opportunities in my day? Ask yourself better questions, that's going to help you create a better focus. It's going to help you decide or choose how you're going to show up by asking those quality questions. Stop reacting and decide to create.
   
   Creating takes work. Creating is hard work. I'm working my butt off because I'm creating something. My wife and I are creating something. We are on a mission to make the world a better place one shop at a time. That's what we're here to do. Creating takes work. You're going to get up some mornings and not want to create You're going to want to stay in bed. It takes strength to go out and create. Don't let situations, circumstances, events, and other people dictate what you do. Don't let setbacks dictate who you can become. Every one of us is so under living the potential that we have in our lives.

I once heard it said that life is a dance between living with our deepest dreams and our biggest fears.
