Success Hacks by Rick White, President 180BIZ

What I want to do is help you with three really simple success hacks that will completely change your business. The first hack that you want to be aware of is how you position things in your brain. If you're looking at something you're going to do and you think, I've got to do this. I don't want to. It's a pain in the butt, blah, blah, blah. What kind of energy do you think you're going to bring to that activity with that kind of mindset? What kind of energy are you going to bring? It won’t be great. It will be lousy, and you’ll most likely complain about it the whole time you do it. It will make your life miserable and everyone around you.

And you probably won’t get a great result because of how you positioned it. So, the first thing is to position what you're about to do as a positive. Position it as something that you GET to do not something you GOT to do. Position it as a privilege. An honor. An option. You can now come to it with a lot more energy and a lot more enthusiasm. Have some fun with it. If I'm looking at something and I'm having a hard time, what I'll do is I'll say what's great. What else is great about this?  For example, if I need to shovel the snow. What's great about that? I get a little exercise. What else? It's really quiet when I do it.   Everything you're going to go through there's something great about it. When I have to go out and shovel the driveway, I'm not thinking, “I got to shovel snow.” I'm thinking, “Hey, I'm going to get a workout. It's nice and cold. It's alone. I put a book on my Air Pods and it's a little bit of heaven for me now. And I just take my time and I get it done. So positioning is the first hack that I want to share with you.

So now my second hack is the right decision. So many people get hung up because they're afraid of making the wrong decision, which in our minds is the opposite of right. Stop thinking about making the right decision because there are too many negative consequences with the right decision.  There's that fear that gets welled up inside. And it really gets us kind of worked up. Instead, start thinking about the BEST DECISION. When you make the best decision, it's the best decision for now. And you recognize almost unconsciously think that the best decision today might be a better one tomorrow and that's okay. Whereas when we're thinking right decision, we're looking to say, “okay, this is the decision. It is the only decision I'm ever going to make. It has to work. It has to get me to where I want to go, or everything is going to fall apart.” And that's why there's so much inaction in our businesses. So, I want you to stop thinking, right decision and start chasing the best decision.

The last one is experimenting versus results. When we are focused on results, it's all or nothing. It's perfection. It's either succeed or fail. That's it. That's what results-focus does.  Our results are a great ruler. Yes. Our results are a ruler. They are not a death sentences. They're not something to be avoided. They’re something to be looked at, embraced, measured, monitored. It gives you feedback on how you're doing. But I want you to stop thinking results. And I want you to put your goals out there. And then I want you to start coming up with some hypotheses.  Think about running a written experiment and maybe you only have one or two of the techs or an advisor do it while the other ones are doing what they normally do.

And you start to run an experiment and you get the group involved. And then you compile the data, step back and say, “okay, what did I learn?” I just want you to start experiment after experiment, after experiment, after experiment. We have this really big adventure that we're able to take part in. We can't control it. We can't bend it to our will. We've got to enjoy it. We've must be able to get where we're going, but we're going to have fun doing it. We must be able to learn and let this stuff in. Be curious. Don't have any presuppositions. Don't make up any stories. Be curious and then put some experiments together that are going to help you get to where you want to go.

So, the three hacks are (1) POSITIVE POSITIONING in your mindset. You bring the best version of yourself. (2) Stop thinking right decision, start thinking BEST DECISION. That's going to make all the difference in the world. It takes the pressure off of you. (3) Think EXPERIMENT versus results. Results are still important. Results give us feedback because they give us a way to measure, but they're not the end-all and be-all.  I want you to go and implement these three hacks this week. See what the differences are. Sit down with your team. Talk about these three hacks. Talk about positioning mindset. Talk about right versus best. Talk about experimenting versus results. And I'm telling you, you're going to see growth in your business this week.

Take care, stay safe. God bless and go make some money.
