Why Auto Repair Shop Owners Live Like Their Dying

Live Like Your Dying by Rick White, President 180BIZ

You’re going to die. In fact, every day that you get up brings you one day closer to your inevitable end. Talking or thinking about death is avoided at all costs and you waste your days like they’re never going to end. I’m guilty of this too. I’m reading a great book right now called Living Forward by Michael Hyatt and Daniel Harkavy which is all about living a life of intention.

Going through life one day at a time creates a focus on the activities of the day while losing sight of the impact you want your life to have. They and others have talked about living intentionally for many years. Michael Gerber talks about “COD or Cash Out Day” in his awesome book, The E-Myth. Stephen Covey references it in his great book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People when he talks about “Beginning with the end in mind”. The true currencies of life are relationships and experiences; they’re the only things you can take with you where you’re going next. Everything else on this earth is temporary and yet it seems more time, effort, and worry are spent on attaining the things that matter the least.

In Living Forward, one of the questions the authors ask is, “How do you want to be remembered?”. That’s a pretty powerful question. What I love about this question is that it shows that you and I are capable of creating our own legacy. We can decide on how the people that matter most to us remember who we were and what we meant to them in their lives. It’s an exercise that I’m going through now and highly recommend you take the time to do so too.

You’ll find that you’re spending way too much time chasing the trivial at the expense of the important. You’ll find that you’re living smaller than you want to. You’ll also find that you’re letting fear keep you back from all the great things just waiting for you to do and explore.

So for me, I’m deciding to live every day like I’m dying. I’m taking control of my legacy from circumstance and the activity of the day and will shape it to be what I want it to be. I’m going to live louder, love more, and enjoy more. I’m determined to live an AMAZING life with zero regrets at the end! Want to join me?

Take care and God bless.
