Auto Repair Shop Owner's Daily Dose 53: A Great Time to Reset

A Great Time to Reset by Rick White, President 180BIZ

Lately, I've been talking to you about how this is a great time to reset. There are a few different reasons why I am saying that.

  1. Here’s the first reason why this is a great time to do a reset, not only in your business but in your life too. When we hit major events, they tend to make us step back and reevaluate this time in our lives or how the business is doing.  That’s a good thing.  Reevaluation is a great way to keep your business fresh and moving in the right direction.  We tend to do this at the end of the year or when someone close to us passes.  This situation, the economic challenges, is a great time to reevaluate, too. Reevaluation can be a springboard for growth. And I don't mean money growth. I'm talking about personal growth, professional growth.
  2. The second reason why this is a great time to do a reset is that now there is a lower barrier to change in your organization as a rule. When things are going well and when there's a lot of certainties, people are resistant to change.  But right now when things are so tentative, people are open to change.  They want to make changes for the better.  There will be less resistance to change.

Normally, people resist change because there is not enough pain associated with the current conditions.  To effectively implement change, you must identify a need and show the pain or loss to your team to get their buy-in. When they see that, the resistance, the barrier to change will come down. Well when there's a lot of uncertainty in the air, which is something we've been dealing with for the past few months, I think people are starting to come back and calm down a little bit. They realize that we just need to adjust.

When there’s a lot of uncertainty in the air, it’s a great time to introduce change to make things better. People will more likely embrace it because they want to get out of their pain. So, I really want you to hear this. Now is a great time to implement change. It's a great time to do a reset to look at areas in your business and decide how to do things better. You still want to create the need and identify the pain.  That's how we get buy-in. Identify the need, ramp up the pain, show them the benefit, how it's going to solve it, how it's going to make life for everybody on the other side of the change.

So, I want you to step back and do a reset. Do a reboot. Look at your life. Look at your day. How are you? Are you loving what you're doing right now? If not, do a reset? What can you love about what you're doing? What can you do differently, so you love it more?

Have some fun and go make some money today. Take care. God bless.
