Auto Repair Shop Owner's Daily Dose 44: Dreams

Dreams by Rick White, President 180BIZ

Today I want to talk about dreams. Yes, you heard me right. Dreams. Lately, I've seen too many people in either stall mode or in fear mode and even nightmare mode. When we start down the fear path, fear has this nasty habit of stacking. In other words, the fears stack on top of each other until you have a tower of fears. For example, I don't have many cars. My people are going to leave. I'm not going to be able to get them back. We're never going to get busy again. I'm not going to be able to pay my bills. I'm going to lose the business. My kids won't love me anymore. My wife's going to leave me. Fear just stacks and it makes it worse and worse on ourselves.

What I want you to start doing is dreaming of what is possible. Take five minutes today and close your eyes. Dream about what this is going to be like in one month, three months, six months, and I want you to dream as if you can't fail. All you can do is succeed. Dream bigger. Dream better. Now is the time to get that destination out in front of you.

I don't believe dreams are what you do while you're sleeping. I believe real dreams are what keep you awake. Real dreams are what drive you, what fuel you. You see, I want to set my family up for success. I want my kids and my grandkids to see what is possible when you apply yourself. I want them to see that even with limited education, whatever the case is, nothing is a barrier. It's just a challenge and those challenges are there to help us get better. Those challenges are a choice. You're either going to use that challenge as a stepping stone or you're going to use it as a stumbling block. It’s your choice. Remember, dreams are what keep you awake at night.

Next, I heard this first from Richard Bach who Jonathan Livingston Seagull. He said that if a dream is placed in your heart, you're also given the power to see it through. I truly believe that at the end of our lives we get the gift of seeing just how much power we had. The gift of seeing just how much influence we had that we never took advantage of because we were lived smaller. We were letting fear, doubt and insecurity keep us living smaller than we should be.

Here at 180BIZ, we have big plans. Brenda, Sandy, and I are to light the world on fire. We are going to blow this place up because we have a dream. This virus situation has given us a real kick in the pants. It made us aware of what we haven't been tapping into. So, I'm going to ask you to take five minutes and dream a dream. Dream a dream that's so big, it excites the crap out of you and scares you a little bit.  Those are the best dreams to have. Martin Luther King had a dream where his children are judged by the content of their character, not by the color of their skin.  And his dream is still living 40 years after he passed away.

So, let me ask you, “How big is your dream?” I ask because I know that you got this.  You absolutely got this, and I want you to do it now. Start focusing on what is possible. From a positive, faith-based, future-oriented perspective because it's up to you. It's the actions that you take today or don't take today that create the reality that you believe was possible. If you get on a sales call and you in your heart of hearts you know this is the right thing for the customer, that it's a great value and you are just over the top confident what you're doing, then 99 times out of a hundred you’ll make the sale.  But if you're sitting there thinking that no one's working, no one's driving, everyone's on unemployment, no one's got any money, you’ll lose the sale.  That’s because you don't expect it. It all comes back to what Henry Ford said.  He said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.”

So, dream all day long. And put some accountability behind it. Throw it out there and let others know your dream. Be brave and daring and get it done.  That person is inside of you. I believe it with every fiber of my being. You have got this. You are going to thrive on the other side of this. And it starts today. It starts now. So, I want you to have a dream. Recognize that a real dream is what keeps you up at night. If a dream has been placed in your heart, I honestly believe, like Richard Bach says that you have the power, you've been given the power to make it come to pass.

You watch what happens with us, it's going to be amazing. And I mean that from an impact perspective. I mean it from a making a difference in people's lives perspective. I love you and I want to see you grow. I want to see you succeed. This virus is literally a generational identifier. And I don't know if you understand what that means, but like World War II was a generational identifier. The Vietnam War was a generational identifier. This is going to be a generational identifier. Five years from now, we're going to go through a little recession. You’ll say, “You should have been around in 2020 with the virus. Now that was something to talk about.” You’ll tell your kids and grandkids stories about it because guess what? You made it through it. You grew through this and now this other stuff's going to come along. You're going to have so much believe in yourself because you made it through here.

I want to see your dreams. Private message me if you want, but I want to see your dreams. I want to see where you're heading and I'll keep you accountable and I want you to hold me accountable to mine. You're going to see us taking off. You're going to see more videos, you're going to see more classes. You're going to see more online content. You're going to see growth and expansion on our part so that I can make a difference in the world. We can make a difference in the world. So listen, you got this. We can make it happen. What's your dream?

Tip of the Day. Blood banks are really running low right now. I would be a great idea for you to reach out to the red cross. Put together a blood drive at your shop. Make sure you're carrying through with all the social distancing and the CDC protocols. They'll help you with it. But show everyone what an amazing corporate citizen you are for your community.

I love you guys. It's only through you that we can make a difference. If this made a difference with you, please share it. Let's get other people dreaming. Let's get other people thinking big, and let's rock and roll. Have a good day. Take care. God bless.
