Auto Repair Shop Owner's Daily Dose 36: You Create Your Day

You Create Your Day by Rick White, President 180BIZ

I want to talk to you about seizing the day. It's easy to go into the future and see this as, if you can pardon my French, a real shit show right now and I get it. There's a lot of stuff going on. Things are different. It's uncomfortable. I believe it's our nature to pull back. What I want to talk to you about today is the delusion that you're going to go into the day half-heartedly and end up with something amazing on the other end. It does not happen. You cannot go in half-hearted. You cannot dial your day in, call it in from the bed, and expect amazing results. You must be all in. And this is a decision that you must make every moment of every day, especially in times like these. It’s because everything on the outside is going to push you down. Everything on the outside is going to be telling you to slow down, it's not worth it. But I am telling you right now, some shops are thriving. They are pushing through this. They are learning to pivot, adapt, and overcome.

That is what you're here to learn right now. Learn to be uncomfortable. Get comfortable with being uncomfortable because your brain wants to put you in the comfort zone. It wants you to step back. It doesn't want to learn new stuff. It doesn't want to risk rejection. It wants you to slow down. That's what your brain wants you to do. Why? Because it's a scary time. It sees right now as a threat and your brain wants to go back into the cave and sit there until the sun comes out again. We can't let that happen.

This might sound a little different. I've been doing some studying and there are three different though-centers in our body. We have our head, our heart, and we have our gut. And you know your gut is your intuition. It's that gut feeling. Your heart is where our dreams and our aspirations live. Our brain is an amazing calculator and survival tool from a survival's perfect perspective. All it wants to do is keep you safe and conserve energy. That's it. So, you've got to listen to your heart about where you want to go, who you want to serve, how you want to make a difference in life. Use your intuition, your gut to do a check and make sure that everything's aligned, that we will go in the way you want to go.

Get up and realize that you create your day every single day. It's done with intention. That's why I asked those three questions. What am I grateful for? That gets all the crap out of my head because you can't have more than one feeling at a time. So, I choose gratitude. It's the feeling of growth. It's the feeling of abundance.

Then who do I want to be today? Who do I want to be today? That’s my intention. Once I decide who I want to be, the identity, now ask, what do I have to believe to make that happen? And then what are the behaviors I have to display in my action actions? By having that mindset of expectancy that today's going to be an amazing day, I'm going to be able to make a difference in the world. And then my third question, my third question is who can I help? How can I make a difference today? That's what this is all about. When we get to the end of our lives, it's not the bank balance that makes a difference. It's how we affected the people around us. It's the dent we made in the world.

So how can you make someone else's day a little brighter? How can you make it a little easier? How can you give someone a little bit more hope? You can't give anyone any of those things if you are not 100% in touch with them yourself. So, stop coming into the day thinking you’re just going to get to the end of the day. I'm just going to go through the emotions here and wait for things to get better. No, don't wait for things to get better. You make them better. You do it with your mindset. You do it with your expectations. You do it with your focus. You do it with your intentions.

You create your day in the morning. Get up 15 minutes earlier in the morning and give yourself the gift of intention. Decide what your day will look like. Once you do that, you are going to be absolutely amazed at how well the day goes. Are there still challenges? Absolutely. That's what happens. But don't sit back and let the day happen to you. Don't let circumstances slap you in the face and make your motto, “Thank you. May I have another?” Stop playing the victim and create your day. Then go into it with all your energy, all your expectations. You may not hit what you thought, but I guarantee it'll be better than what's going on right now.

You should listen to anything by Les Brown. He said, “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars.” You must create your day. The reason I'm bringing this up is that there are not enough people out there doing it. There are not enough people out there working to make a difference. There are not enough people out there going to see others and give them that hope and give them that encouragement and love and support.

I believe in you. I believe in your ability to make a difference in your life, in your business, with your family, with the people you come in contact with today. I believe you can be an angel here on earth today for someone. You're not going to see it if all you're doing is thinking about your problems, your situation, how it's affecting you, how it's not fair. Let's step back and let's all decide that every one of us will make one random act of kindness. That's all we need to do to change the world. But it takes intention and then it takes observation.

But again, you got to bring this to the table. You got to bring this to your day every day. You can't help others if you're on empty. So, take care of yourself. Come into your morning today and decide to create your day. Even if you've got to take 10 minutes right now. Take your phone off the hook. Give yourself 10 minutes of quiet. Decide what your ideal day would look like. Picture it in your mind so vividly that you can see it. You can hear the noises, you can taste it, you can feel it. Then I want you to open your eyes and create it. It's going to make all the difference in the world.

Tip of the Day. I'm going to come back to the Facebook page. Have you gone out and asked your friends to like your page? People are starting to do that. Have you done it yet? What's the one thing that you've been putting off that you should be doing because it will make a difference in your life. Step up with every decision you make. It should be followed by action.

Go make a difference today. Make your day be what you want it to be. You have all the power. That's the secret. You have all the power to create your day. Go do it. Take care. God bless.
