Auto Repair Shop Owner's Daily Dose 64: The Best Year

The Best Year You Ever Had the Virus by Rick White, President 180BIZ

I'm going to ask another question today. My question today is: What are you going to do to make this the best year you ever had? The reason why I'm asking this question because I want you to be aware. I want it consciously in front of you that no one can take this year away from you. No one or nothing can take 2020 away from you unless you give permission to do so. So, my question to you is: What are you going to do right now to make this the best year you've ever had?

Look, we had a hiccup this year. We've had the zig; we've had the zag.  It's okay. That's what life and business are all about. It's about coming to a challenge and adapting, overcoming. Every one of these Daily Dose Episodes has been designed to help you believe in yourself, believe in your business, and believe in your future. Every one of these Daily Dose Episodes is to help you not only go through this but to help you grow through it. That's what I want you focused on. Growth.

Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” That is true. No one can take this year away from you unless you give them permission to do so. Do not let that happen. Claim control of 2020. Make this your year. Even if you're thinking, “Okay, I had big goals. But we hit a snag, I'm not going to hit those goals.” Great! Don’t give up on the goal. Revise the goal.  So, if it was a million dollars in sales for the year. Divide that by 12 and multiply it by the rest of the year. This is not a matter of pushing through anymore. This is a matter of mindset. This is a matter of you creating a destination out there that excites you and then making a plan to get it all right. This virus stuff is sad. It's bad. I get it. It's been a problem. It’s still a concern. But you cannot put your business on pause while you're going through it.

You must step back and reevaluate. I've talked about this as a great reset. Reset your business, reset your expectations, reset your passion, your purpose, and reset your people. You may have some people in your business that shouldn’t be.  It’s time to say Hasta La Vista. Get yourself and your business moving forward. But you've must have, what I believe are, three core beliefs.

  1. Believe that there's a treasure out there. Believe that there is a pot of gold at the end of your rainbow.
  2. Believe that it's yours to take. Believe that you are going to get there and you're going to do it any way you possibly can in a moral, ethical, and legal way. Believe that you are going to achieve, you're going to reach, you're going to get to that pot of gold, that treasure.
  3. Believe that it's worth it. It will take work; it will take sacrifice. Believe that the process of achieving that treasure, the skillset you need to learn, and the person you must become in order to get to that treasure is 110% worth it.

If you have those three core beliefs, you are going to have an amazing year, this year. It doesn't matter what's in the way. If they're doing construction in front of the shop. Great. What's the plan? If they changed the pattern of the roads. Great. What's the plan? We have this virus thing going on. Great. What's the plan?

Set a goal. Set a destination out there that really excites you and then move forward. Get going. That's what I want for you today. Set some exciting goals. If you want to share them, put them in the comment section for all to see.  Go ahead and create some things that are exciting. I told you about one of my goals last week. I'm going to write a book. I put it out there and it scared the crap out of me. Then I got to the end of that video and thought, “What did I just do? What. Did. I. just. Do?”

But you know something? That's been something I talked to Brenda about for years. I have three or four book ideas inside my head, and it is time to pull the trigger. It is time to stop living small. It is time to step up. So what if that book doesn't ever sell? So what if people don't like it? It's okay. It's an expression of who I am, my thoughts, and my beliefs. Somebody will value it. Even if it's grandkids or great-grandkids.

Brenda just set our goal to be debt-free by the end of the year except for our mortgage. That is our goal this year. And we are working towards it. What are you doing? Get big, get bad. Let's go. I would love to hear what your goals are.

So, this is a Monday morning. Recognize this is a new beginning. It’s a new week. Tomorrow's another new day. Every day is a chance for a new beginning. Don't ever stop and wait for that perfect moment to start because that perfect moment will never come. That's like you sitting at home and waiting to go to work until all the lights are green. C’mon, we're going to hit some red lights. We're going to hit some stuff. We must learn some things. That is the beauty of the journey. Journeys are boring if nothing ever happens. Right? It's the unusual that gets our attention.

I want you to stop looking at the past.  I want you to stop trying to get through the end of the day. I want you to start creating the life you deserve. You do that by putting a destination out there that excites you and then you back into a plan to get there. It's really that simple.

  1. Know where you're at.
  2. Know where you want to go.
  3. Have a plan and take action on that plan.
  4. Then, measure and modify.

That’s as simple as it gets.  Also, next month, on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, I’ll be doing a webinar on How to Deal with Price Cutting Competitors. I hope we'll see you there. Let's have some fun. That's what we're here to do. Enjoy life and grow through life. Ben Franklin once wisely said, “Some people die at 25 and aren’t buried until 75.” Don't be one of those people. Be a learner. Be a student and push forward for something exciting. There is so much greatness inside of you. Let it out. You're going to be amazed.

Take care. Have a great day. God bless.
