Auto Repair Shop Owners Make Positive Things Happen
Positivity by Rick White, President 180BIZ (Estimated Read Time 4 minutes 12 seconds)
People either tend to have a positive outlook or a negative outlook. And I want to talk about that a little bit. When you are a business owner, you can't allow a negative outlook to take over you. Don't misunderstand me, though. Positivity, to me, does not mean everything's all good and great, sunshine and rainbows. There will always be issues. Positivity doesn't mean pretending there are no problems. Life has problems. Positivity just means a belief. I have a belief that I can overcome them. I have a belief that I can overcome any situation that comes my way.
I truly believe that nothing happens to me. Everything happens for me. In other words, I believe that I'm here on this planet molding myself into the person that I am capable of becoming. You might say, “But Rick, I've been disappointed so many times.” I get it. I have, too. The difference is in my 60 years, I've been able to see that over time. The biggest disappointments in my life were the biggest growth areas. And it's absolutely amazing what can happen when you have a positive outlook. A positive outlook simply means that I can get this done. I may not know how to do it right now, but I can get it done. I have the resources. I can figure it out. I can go on Google, YouTube, whatever, and I will figure it out. Zig Zigler said it best. A positive attitude doesn't guarantee success. But you can get everything done a lot better with a positive attitude.
What are you doing to feed your positive attitude? If you don't have a positive attitude, that's one of the reasons why you're not growing. If you believe that there is nothing you can do and life is just what it is and this is all will get, that’s all you will get. In fact, over time, what you have now will go down. (1) You should have a positive expectation for the future. I believe I can have more impact in the next 10 years than I have in the last 19. That’s a positive expectation. (2) Surround yourself with positive people. Make sure they know where you're going. Make sure they know that this is where the bus is going. And then if they want to get on, they're not team members, they're not employees. They are advocates. They are champions. And that makes all the difference in the world.
(3) Have incredible focus. If you don't know where your bus is going, anywhere will do. That doesn't work. The level of success you're experiencing right now is 100% based on the focus you give your forward movement. Listen to that.. Your success so far is based on the focus of where you're going. I'm telling you that life is filled with distractions. You need laser focus on where you are going. When you have that focus and you can put blinders on and keep that focus in, it makes all the difference in the world. Your level of success is inversely proportional to the level of distraction and directly proportional to your focus. The more distracted, the less successful, the more focused, more successful.
So, the lesson for today is (1) positive expectation. (2) Surround yourself with positive people. (3) Have intense laser focus on where you're going and keep it there. When I get up in the morning I write down where I want to go. At lunchtime, I stop, and I write where I want to go. Before I go to bed, I write down where I want to go and keep it in front of me. And you will be absolutely amazed at the growth that you can have.
The world is tainted negatively. Our brain is tainted negatively. Society taints us negatively. Every commercial in the world is telling us we're not good enough. We're not smart enough. We're not beautiful enough until we buy their product. Put armor on against the negativity around you. You must feed positivity. If you just do this as a one-and-done decision over time, you will get more and more negative, more and more bitter, disappointed, and frustrated. Feed the positivity every single day. Feed the expectation every single day. Look for the wins. Look for the challenges and see them as challenges and not hurt obstacles that are keeping you from where you want to go. This is all a big deal.
I get up early every morning and I have a ritual. And that sets me up for the day. What are you doing to feed your positivity? What are you doing to keep your vision laser-focused on where you want to go? How excited will you get? How much do you believe that you will be there? Those are all very important questions to ask. Otherwise, you're getting up with the same stuff, different day. Please don't ever let it be the same stuff different day. Every single day is a blessing.
God bless, stay safe. Go make some money.
