Just ONE Thing
The Choices That Determine Your Shop's Future
Episode #262
with Rick White, 180BIZ
Good morning. My name is Rick White from 180BIZ, and this is my Just ONE Thing.
We're a coaching and training company for the independent auto and truck repair shop industry.
So what are we going to talk about today?
We're going to talk about CHOICES, and I think this is going to be really, really cool.
Have you ever noticed that you can have two shop owners with the same sales, the same market, and the same opportunities, yet one loves what they do and the other can't wait to get out and wants to burn the place down?
I need you to understand the difference isn't their circumstances. It's their choices.
And it's not the big obvious choices. It's the choices they're making every single day without realizing it.
What I'm talking about today is the difference between intentional choices and default choices.
The shop owners who struggle the most aren't usually making bad decisions. They're allowing old decisions to create tolerance.
I want to give you three choices you're making every single day, and I promise you, you aren't thinking about them.
The first choice is this:
Why are you going to work?
Nobody asks that question anymore.
At one point, you had a dream. Then survival took over.
Are you going to work so you don't fail?
Are you going to make payroll?
Pay the bills?
Just get through the day without killing somebody?
Or are you building something meaningful?
Creating opportunities?
Making an impact?
Becoming who you're capable of becoming?
Shop owners who are running from something eventually burn out.
Shop owners who are building something tend to stay energized because of the act of building.
If your why is wrong, everything feels heavy.
It doesn't have to be that way.
The second choice you're making every day is:
Who are you working with?
I can't tell you how many shop owners spend years complaining about their team.
Some tolerate them.
Very few intentionally grow them.
Are you managing problems?
Or are you developing people?
The team you have today is the result of what you've been willing to tolerate.
When growth stops, frustration rises.
When development becomes your focus, your team becomes your most valuable asset instead of your biggest burden.
The third choice is:
Who are you doing work for?
Not every customer deserves your business.
Are you working with anyone who has four wheels and a key?
Are you tolerating customers who shop on price alone?
Customers who question and nitpick every recommendation?
Or are you working with people who value your expertise, appreciate your quality, and trust your process?
The customers you attract are often a reflection of the message you're sending.
You get more of what you market for.
The message starts with understanding:
Why are you going to work?
Who are you working with?
Who are you doing work for?
When you answer those questions intentionally every day, your business starts getting better.
Most shop owners believe they'll be happy when they succeed.
I believe it starts with being happy while they succeed.
And it all starts with better choices.
These three questions determine the quality of the game you're playing.
Ask yourself:
Am I choosing intentionally or by default?
It's okay to change your view.
It's okay to answer these questions with conviction, determination, and a destination.
When you do, you stop reacting and start creating.
You are no longer a victim.
You become a creator.
Please share this message with someone who needs to hear it.
God bless.
Have a great week.
Now go make some money.
Take care, everybody.
